BALMUDA Warranty and Repair policy (Sailing Lantern)
 
Effective from April 15, 2026

About This Policy

This Warranty and Repair Policy (hereinafter “this Policy”) applies only to Sailing Lanterns purchased directly from BALMUDA Inc. (hereinafter ‘BALMUDA’) or from an authorized retailer. This Policy provides the purchaser, or a customer who received the product as a new gift from the purchaser (hereinafter “Customer”), with repair or replacement services free of charge during the warranty period.

  • This Policy is only applicable that were purchased within the United States. Nothing in this Policy shall limit or affect the Customer's statutory rights.
  • BALMUDA provides this service to the Customer based on this Policy. Please use this service only after agreeing to this Policy.

1. Limited Warranty

During the warranty period, BALMUDA may, at its sole discretion, take one of the following actions:
1. Provide repair services free of charge;
2. Replace the defective product with a product of like kind and quality (color may vary), or with a product of equivalent value if the original model is no longer available; or
3. If repair or replacement is not reasonably practicable, provide a pro-rata refund based on the period of use.  The refund amount and the method for calculating such amount are set forth in Appendix A.

1.1 Battery and Lanyard Policy

  • If the battery capacity is determined to have significantly degraded, BALMUDA will provide one (1) free replacement within the warranty period.
  • For lanyards, one (1) free replacement is provided within the warranty period; additional replacements will be at the Customer’s expense. The warranty period for the battery shall be three (3) years from the date of purchase of the Product, as set forth in Section 2.

 

2. Warranty Period

(1)   General Warranty

The warranty period is four (4) years from the date of purchase (corresponding to the shipping date from BALMUDA). The warranty period does not pause, extend, or reset regardless of product usage or repair/replacement.

 

(2) Battery Warranty

The warranty period for the battery is three (3) years from the date of purchase. Only one (1) free replacement is provided within the warranty period.

 

3. Exclusions

This Warranty does not apply in the following cases (except as provided in Section1.1):
- Abuse, misuse,
improper handling, excessive wear, or fraudulent claims;
- Unauthorized repairs, alterations, or
disassembly;
- Use of non-BALMUDA accessories, parts (such as non-genuine batteries) or chargers and cables not meeting recommended specifications;
- Operation or storage under extreme environmental conditions (excessive heat, cold, humidity, salt exposure);
- Accidents, fire, flood, lightning, earthquake, or other force majeure events;
- Use for commercial or other non-personal purposes;
- Cosmetic or surface damage (scratches, scuffs, discoloration, rust);

- Normal wear and tear;
- Improper storage including moisture, condensation, or mold;

- Loss or damage during return shipping caused by inadequate packaging by the Customer.

Charging Note: Damage caused by overcharging, non-recommended chargers, improper voltage, or prolonged failure to recharge the battery is excluded from this Warranty.

4. Warranty Claims Process

1.      Contact BALMUDA Support and register the product.

2.      Provide proof of purchase.

3.      Return the product using the prepaid shipping label provided by BALMUDA.

  • Loss or damage during return shipping caused by inadequate packaging by the Customer is not covered under this Warranty. Therefore, please ensure that the product is properly packaged before returning it.
  • If the issue is covered, BALMUDA will return the repaired or replacement product free of charge.
  • If the issue is not covered, a cost estimate for paid repair will be provided, and repair will performed only upon the Customer’s approval.
  • In the event that the Customer cancels the repair request after an estimate has been provided, the Customer may be required to bear the cost of the estimate, return shipping fees, and any other related expenses.
  • Parts removed during the process of both chargeable and free-of-charge repairs may, at our discretion, be collected for purposes such as recycling or analysis. Ownership of any collected parts shall belong to BALMUDA, and such parts cannot be returned to the Customer.

 

5. Warranty Period After Repair/Replacement

Repaired or replacement products remain covered under the original warranty period. The warranty period does not extend or reset.

 

6. Abandonment

If 60 days have passed after a repair completion notice, cost estimate, or final notice without a response from the Customer, the product may be deemed abandoned and disposed of at BALMUDA’s discretion. Disposal fees may be charged to the Customer.

 

7. Discounted Replacement

If the product is outside the warranty period or otherwise excluded, BALMUDA may, at its discretion, offer a discounted replacement product. The replacement product will be covered by a new four (4) year warranty from its purchase date.

 

8. Handling of Personal Information

BALMUDA manages Customers' personal information appropriately in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

9. Post-Warranty Service

Following the expiration of the warranty period, BALMUDA may, at its discretion, make reasonable efforts to supply parts or compatible substitute parts necessary for repairs, generally for up to fifteen (15) years after the end of production of the Product.
Any such availability is not guaranteed and may be limited or discontinued at any time due to factors beyond BALMUDA’s control, including but not limited to discontinuation of part manufacturing, procurement difficulties, changes in applicable laws or regulations, or other unavoidable circumstances.

 

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, BALMUDA’s total liability shall not exceed the original purchase price of the product. BALMUDA shall not be liable for incidental, indirect, or consequential damages to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, except in cases where BALMUDA has acted with willful misconduct or gross negligence. 

 

11. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

This Policy is governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising out of or relating to this Policy shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court of Japan. Except as otherwise required by applicable laws and regulations. 

 

12. Modifications & Severability

BALMUDA may modify this Policy only when (1) the modification is in the general interest of the Customer, or (2) the modification is reasonable in light of the purpose of this Policy, the necessity of the change, the appropriateness of the modified terms, and other relevant circumstances. The modified Policy shall take effect when it is posted on BALMUDA’s website or otherwise made publicly available. If any provision of this Policy is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
